Beeswax Candle History

Traditionally used for centuries in the finest homes and establishments, beeswax candles have a soft natural luster and stand tall and straight in all weather, due to the density of beeswax. Esteemed since ancient times, these rewarding beeswax candles have a superior slow burn, without smoking or dripping. When lit, beeswax candles give off a soothing warm glow in a room. Our products are hand dipped and hand crafted the way they have been for centuries using true Old World methods.

The Honey Bee

Pure Beeswax candles begin with the honey bee’s intense labor. Honey bees produce beeswax from four pairs of glands on the underside of their abdomen. They consume about 17 - 20 pounds of honey to be able to produce each pound of beeswax, enough for two 12 inch hand dipped beeswax tapers. One pound of honey equals the life work of approximately 300 bees and a flight distance of two to three times around the world. Honey bees never sleep!

100% American Natural Beeswax

Our domestic beeswax comes from local bee hive cappings. This raw beeswax is lightly filtered to create a natural healthy pure beeswax candle without additives. It is edible, can be chewed like gum, and is used in handcream, soap, furniture polish, and aromatherapy. Beeswax makes the cleanest burning candle, never goes bad and is always useable. Over time beeswax candles can develop a nice patina called bloom that can either be left on or buffed off with a soft towel.

Longest Burning Candle

Our beeswax candles, when compared to normal paraffin candles, burn much longer (up to 3 times longer). Some paraffin candles have additives (see dripless below) that will make them burn longer but are usually more expensive to buy and when they are burned put unwanted chemicals in the air for you to breathe! Because beeswax is very long burning, it makes pure beeswax candles a great value. You would have to buy up to 3 paraffin candles to equal one pure beeswax candle.

Beeswax Candles Have The Brightest Flame

Beeswax provides the brightest flame of any candle. There is no other brighter flame. Beeswax candles have also been laboratory proven to have the same light ray as sunshine while paraffin candles have the same light ray as a fluorescent bulb. Nothing compares to the warm glow of a pure beeswax candle.

Beeswax Candles Purify the Air

Beeswax is the only wax that is proven to emit negative ions that clean the air when burned. No other candle can purify the air and eliminate odors naturally. Scented candles only mask odors and do not eliminate them.

Beeswax Candles Are Hypo-allergenic

Our pure beeswax candles are great for people who have allergies, asthma or headaches due to burning paraffin and scented candles. They are environmentally friendly with a longer, cleaner and non-toxic burn.

Free of Soot and Smoke

Beeswax is the cleanest burning wax there is. Paraffin is a by-product of petroleum production made from the left over sludge bleached to make it white. It burns dirty and fast, covering our homes in candle soot. In contrast when 100% pure beeswax candles have wicks trimmed to ¼” and are burned in an environment free of drafts, soot and smoke are not generated, keeping your home clean.

Dripless

Beeswax candles by nature do not drip if they are kept in an environment free of drafts. Beeswax melts at a higher temperature than paraffin, giving the melted beeswax properties that resist dripping. Some paraffin candles contain additives that help to keep them from dripping but they will also put unwanted chemicals in the air for you to breathe!
